The government has approved a series of measures to protect renters who have been impacted by COVID-19.
The measures include:
no evictions or rent increases for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency;
extending the notice period for renters who have been renting for less than 6 months from 28 days to 90 days.
The ban on evictions has been expanded to include all tenancies in the State, including those not covered by the Residential Tenancies Act.
The measure includes all local authority and approved housing body units, and specifically protects Travellers from eviction, “except where movement is required to ameliorate hardship and provide protection and subject to consultation with the Travellers involved”.
